Festival Singers presented a Christmas Concert entitled "Prepare the Way" at Festival Place, Sherwood Park on Sunday, December 13, 2009. This was a selection of traditional and international Christmas Music which was a wonderful introduction to the holiday season. The concert was directed by Elaine Myhre, accompanied by Denis Arseneau, and welcomed the All City Children's Choir and a string section from the University of Alberta as Special Guests.
There were certainly some special efforts needed to Prepare the Way and present this concert. The choir call was for 6 PM and it was a bitterly cold windy dark blustery winter night. So much so, that the power had been off in most of Sherwood Park since 4 PM. Festival Place was black except for a bit of candlelight and flickering emergency lighting. Fortunately, the lights and heat were restored at 6:30 and the concert proceeded as planned. Even better than planned, as everyone was so excited that we forgot to be nervous and enjoyed singing even more!
This concert was sponsored by Strathcona County Recreation, Parks and Culture, Festival Place, the Alberta Choral Federation and the Department of Music, University of Alberta.
